Maureen McCarthy

Hi! I am Maureen McCarthy, a Licensed Social Worker based in Central Pennsylvania. I graduated from Shippensburg University with my Master’s in Social Work and I am certified in ‘Affirmative Therapy for Transgender Communities’ from Widener University.

I have extensive experience working with gender expansive and sexually diverse individuals, including but not limited to the LGBTQIIA+, Polyam/CNM and BDSM/kink communities. In addition, to folks facing life transitions, stress, self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I offer an eclectic approach in session, playing off of humanistic, relational and psychodynamic therapies. This will show up through you as the expert in your life and lived experience. I offer you the space to share your story and learn about yourself through our therapeutic relationship. Through your self-awareness and learned acceptance of change, you will find a new sense of meaning. I utilize mindfulness and problem solving to process and evaluate choices to promote your well-being.

It is important to me to provide a warm setting, with validation, laughter, and empathy, for your healing and self-exploration. I aim to create a safe and supportive space for you to show up as your authentic self. You will find yourself collaborating, reflecting, learning, and being challenged in session. You will make connections and identify patterns that will lead to enhanced relationships, changed behaviors, and more effective coping.
